We've made it no secret that we're pretty big Studio Ghibli fans here at Awesome-Robo. So it came as a bit of a surprise that this new film, The Life of Guskou Budori, is not a Ghibli film. It has the same magical, gentle, yet fantastical feel that is so reminiscent of the films we've grown to love. Based off of the work of beloved Japanese children's writer Kenji Miyazawa, Guskou is a cat who lives in the north eastern forests of Japan during the 1920's.
After a series of natural disasters, Guskou is forced to to leave and search for a new place to live. He soon meets a group of natural scientists (whose work primarily involves volcanoes) who are dealing with the same natural disasters. It looks absolutely stunning, and we'll be on the lookout for either a subtitled or English-language version.
