The Art Of Laurel Austin

Remember Brink? The game was widely considered to be a disappointment considering the hype behind it, delivering a lackluster 'campaign' devoid of story plagued with some bugs. I managed to squeeze over a dozen hours out of it in multiplayer, but never returned after that. However, on an art level the game succeeded and then some in creating a truly awesome new style which combined the pushed proportions and stylization of Team Fortress 2 mixed with a more realistic edge. Prior to the game shipping in 2011 I had a chance to attend a lecture at GDC by Splash Damage about developing their unique art style, and that's where I learned about Laurel Austin, aka 'Tully.'

Tully, who moved on after Brink to work at Blizzard had the opportunity to lead the way for coming up with the distinct art style of the characters, creating some awesome concepts with a ton of personality (See our Art Of Brink post). Since moving on she's been releasing some truly incredible work done for personal projects and freelance for the WoW card game, which I definitely think are worth sharing for the sheer amount of awesome. Check them out after the break!
