Want To Defend Kirk? The "Be A Red Shirt" Contest Is The Way To Go

This dead guy could be you! (Via)
IDW, the publisher behind the Star Trek comic, is asking readers: "Are you willing to die to protect your favorite comic book retailer?"  They are allowing one lucky winner to protect the winning retailer in a cover illustration for a future issue of IDW's Star Trek comic book series. Read more about it after the break!

The winning Redshirt will be on a cover illustrated by the Sharp Brothers. The cover will be an extremely limited, and thus highly collectible variant cover given only to the winning retailer and the CBLDF.

If you are unaware of the term (which would be surprising), a redshirt refers to the original Star Trek Series when a stock character would die soon after being introduced because they would be wearing a red shirt. Now you know never to wear a red shirt on an away mission.

To enter the "Be A Redshirt" contest, fans must e-mail their explanation in 300 words or less about why their retailer is the best to IDW at contests@IDWPublishing.com with the subject: Save My Retailer. The winning fan and their retailer will be depicted on a limited-edition variant cover of STAR TREK. This special cover will be limited to only 300 copies: 100 each to the winning fan and their retailer, plus 100 to CBLDF to help them continue the important and challenging work of defending retailers everywhere. The winning fan will also receive the original art created by the Sharp Brothers.

Personally, I think this idea is awesome. I would enter it but as of writing this post I'm wearing a red shirt and I quite like living.
