Doctor Who Gets It's Third Big Screen Attempt

Move along, nothing to see here.
Variety recently reported that the Harry Potter director (David Yates) is currently at work developing a feature film version of Dr. Who with BBC's Jane Tranter. But guess what, this has been attempted quite a few times..As a matter of fact, third times the charm.

I'm a HUGE Doctor Who fan. But I really don't think this will work, my reasoning as to why after the break!

"The notion of the time-travelling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time," said Yates. "Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch."

That's right. Another reboot coming around in Hollywood. At this point I think people will hate the idea of a reboot because everything seems to be a reboot or a remaining/remake of classic franchises and the market is getting over saturated.

I also think that with the show still getting top ratings on TV it feels redundant to be even thinking about a reboot. The Doctor Who movie in 1996 was made to try and pitch an American series (and failed) and actually was meant to be part of the main continuity. The show had been cancelled since 1989 at this point, whilst the 1960's movies were just made to cash in on a popular franchise. The movies were retellings of two classic Doctor Who tales for the big screen, not whole new tales of adventure and Daleks. Is this a sign that the studios are cashing in before the cash cow runs out of milk? Or am I just being a old man looking at things through old man eyes?

We will see but don't blink just yet.
