It's not very often that I come across a movie trailer that really, really interests me. I saw a teaser trailer to this movie, The Skin I Live In, a few months ago, and have been waiting for the full trailer ever since. Unfortunately, a little research beforehand spoiled the plot for me (for the love of all that is holy, please mark spoilers as such, people!!). But even with that being the case, I'm super stoked for this film... And to see Antonio Banderas get back to more serious roles (Shrek and the Spy Kids series, I'm glaring at you).
More bizarre exploration after the jump!
Initially, the first thing that caught my eye was the poster: A woman wearing some sort of plastic mask. It's bizarre and the reason for the mask just begs to be discovered. Why is she wearing it? After watching the trailer, it appears that it might have to do with plastic surgery. Except it's portrayed in the creepiest fashion possible. Yeah, I'm going to need to learn more.
While watching this, I was immediately reminded of the classic 1960 Criterion Collection French film, Eyes Without A Face. In that movie, a woman is horribly disfigured in an accident that her father, a plastic surgeon, caused. Plagued by terrible guilt, he goes crazy in his attempts to find a new face for her.
Still from 'Eyes Without A Face". The mask is totally not creepy. (Via) |
