Meet Your New Spider-Man (In The Ultimate Universe)

Marvel, ahead of the release of Ultimate Fallout tomorrow, has revealed to USA today the big twist we've been waiting for; we finally know who replaces Peter Parker as Spider-Man within the Ultimate Spider-man series. Who is it? Find out after the jump. I'm not going to lie, you'll be very surprised.

The new Ultimate Spider-Man is a young man called Miles Morales. He's half-black and half-Hispanic. Say hi everyone.

Marvel's Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said in a press release issued this morning:
"When the opportunity arose to create a new Spider-Man, we knew it had to be a character that represents the diversity-in background and experience-of the twenty-first century," said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. "Miles is a character who not only follows in the tradition of relatable characters like Peter Parker, but also shows why he's a new, unique kind of Spider-Man-and worthy of that name.

Maybe sooner or later a black or gay - or both - hero will be considered something absolutely normal."

At least Miles has the same wit as our beloved Parker.
From what we've seen, Miles will be the same age as when Peter first started. But don't buy Ultimate Fall-out #4 thinking it will be an origin story; the appearance is short so if you blink, you'll miss it.

Readers will have to pick up the new Ultimate Spider-Man #1 in September to learn more about Miles Morales. Because we know absolutely nothing. One thing Brian Michael Bendis, long time writer of the series, said is that the core value at the heart of the Spider-Man mythos will be familiar to his readers.
"The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility, he's going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means."

The article also hinted that Miles will share connections with the late Peter Parker. The supporting cast (including Aunt May and Gwen Stacy) will also appear, guiding the new Spider-Man through his training and on his mission to protect New York City. So it's not like we are stepping on completely new grounds. But still an interesting idea for the direction of the series. Lets see where this goes.

Ultimate Fallout #4 goes on sale this Wednesday in comics stores everywhere and can also be purchased digitally from the Marvel Comics app in the iTunes Store. Ultimate Spider-Man #1 goes on sale in September.
