Skateistan: To Live And Skate In Kabul
Skateistan To Live and Skate Kabul from Franklin Dow on Vimeo.
I'm surprised this documentary hasn't recieved a little more attention. The documentary focuses on kids who skate in Afghanistan, an activity that spread like wildfire after two Australian skaters, Oliver Percovich and Sharna Nolan showed up in Kabul with their skateboards. After running into a group of incredibly eager kids, they decided to setup a school known as Skateistan, which has turned into a much bigger effort to spread the sport to the region.
Hearing the sad stories and witnessing the lives some of these kids are living, it makes me happy to see them being given an opportunity to pursue something radically different on their free time. It looks like an uplifting documentary worth checking out. Skateistan.
