The Gates Of Hell

Alright, lets go back to Darvaza, Turkmenistan in 1971.  A bunch of geologists, drilling for a survey, tap into a natural gas cavern.  The ground below them collapsed, swallowing their equipment and leaving a massive 226 foot hole in the ground. In an emergency measure to prevent the gases from spreading, they decided to ignite the gases in the hope that it would go out in a few days.  Fast forward 40 years later, the damn hole is STILL BURNING. The ambient soundtrack from hell doesn't help.
