Want to buy a friend a Pepsi, but stuck by being in another country? Ever felt like being nice to a stranger but not actually have to look at them? Pepsi has managed to fix this situation in the next step of social interactivity.
The new machine allows customers to buy drinks for friends, who receive a redemption code by text and use it to pick up their soda at any other social vending machine. The machine also has a "Random Acts of Refreshment" mode, just in case you really want to give a complete stranger in another city a can of Pepsi. The greatest thing about this machine? You can record a video greeting... Another way to flash your junk to a complete stranger.
But seriously, this is such a cool idea and I can't wait to see one locally. Pepsi has said the idea "transforms a static, transaction-oriented experience into something fun and exciting they'll want to return to, again and again." I really hope that my good kharma will get me just as many Pepsi cans as I plan to give out; 2.
A prototype of the Social Vending System will debut at the National Automatic Merchandising Association's One Show in Chicago, April 27-29.
