Akira Adaptation Couldn't Be More American

Another classic ruined by someone who failed to read/watch the original source material?
Harry Partridge released an American Akira parody trailer  back in 2008, in response to the rumours of the rumours of an American Akira adaptation. 3 Years later, and this clip has never been more relevent. Because news of Akira's American live-action adaptation have come forward, and it's already sounding like a piece of s***.

According to Deadline, a few actors have been sent a copy of the Steve Kloves script for the live-action AKIRA adaptation.

The story takes place in the rebuilt New Manhattan where a leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment. There are two major roles, and I'm told that for Tetsuo, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy have been given the new script. For the role of Kaneda, the script has been given to Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix. The two leads are expected to come from that group of actors.

New Manhattan? NEW MANHATTAN? Is Neo-Tokyo is too Japanese for those pre-teen girls you are trying to make this film for? Which brings me onto the selection of actors they are going with, because they are going with adults when the characters in the originals are f***ing school kids. It's a big part of the story they've just decided to gloss over. They've just gone with a bunch of actors that wouldn't fit the original stories because they are currently big names in the Hollywood world, and bring an audience who would only see something because "ROB PATTINSON, TWILIGHT HUNK IS IN IT <3".

Thanks Hollywood for ruining ANOTHER thing I love. It's not like you could make an original film, because there aren't a bunch of other original stories you could use.
I'm going to stop whinning now. Go rent/buy the classic 1988 anime adapation, or buy and read the manga. Don't support this.
