More rumors surrounding the Akira adaptation have been recently released via Variety regarding a new writer and a possible lead role position in discussion.
James Franco is rumored to be in talks for the role of Kaneda, the biker gang member that is out to save his friend Tetsuo from terrible medical experiments involving psychic powers. Warner Brothers recently mentioned that Steve Kloves would be taking the helm of adapting the story for the big screen. Kloves was in charge of adapting 7 out of the 8 Harry Potter movies, so from what we can tell from how those turned out is that its a bit of a relief.
The only issue still at hand is that of the changes being made for Western audiences..Including turning the city where the events take place into Neo-York instead of Neo Tokyo. Its funny how concerned they are about where it takes place. No rumors yet if the PG-13 rumors are true as well. Nonetheless its good to hear that this movie is in motion.
