Deus Ex: Tiger Handheld Revolution

If Deux Ex: Human Revolution had come out circa 1991 we probably would have had the chance to experience a Tiger Electronics adaptation of the scifi thriller. This little fan made mockup of a handheld encapsulates the game experience in a nutshell, with plenty of cybernetic implants, 'Not asking for this,' hacking and something something...Confucius. I can only hope that these will be included as a preorder bonus with the next installment of the Deus Ex series.  On a related note, if you do want to experience some retro handheld games, you should check out Pica pic.

The Portable Gamecube Mark II: The Envision

Today we premiere the fruits of 7 months of design, prototyping and manufacturing courtesy of Youtube user/modder Tchay. The Envision is an ultra compact, portable Gamecube that runs off batteries and uses an SD card to run all the games. As well as being a damn sexy device, the portable is also hooked up with progressive scan to make the titles look even more beautiful. The entire presentation is set to an awesome remix of the insanely catchy Windmill Hut track from Ocarina of time, and can be found on OCRemix.

Aliens: Infestation...Time To Dust Off Your DS

Its been quite a few years since we've had a half decent game that tackled the Aliens franchise..The latest attempt by Sega, Alien Vs Predator turned out rather average..And you know what? It absolutely blows when people squander their chance to deliver a proper homage to a fantastic franchise. In a very random turn of events, Sega just recently released a brand new trailer for a DS title known as Aliens: Infestation...And no, not the underwhelming 3DS..We're talking DS classic. Its a strange move on their part, but after learning more about the game, the chances of myself picking up a copy just went up by 900%.

The game offers what appears to be a sidescrolling experience, but beefs it up with quicktime events, Castlevania/Metroid style exploration and a deep squad based system. And lets not forget, the game isn't toned down due to the system...Its an adult rated title with copious amounts of Xenomorph dismemberment, facehugger impregnation and a ton of dark, creepy settings reminiscent of the film. The fact that Sega chose not to scrap this game is a good sign, in my opinion. The game will be coming out on October 11, so mark your calendars for what will hopefully be a solid title that does the franchise justice.

Pica Pic is retro handheld awesomeness

There used to be an age when 3D handhelds were pure science fiction and handheld developers took a much simpler approach. I distinctly remember playing a Sonic The Hedgehog game, similar to the bonus levels in Sonic 2, on a road trip, wearing out the batteries time and time again.

Pica Pic takes you back to the olden days where Tiger Electronics ruled supreme with their lo-fi electronic LCD games. Check out the site where you can play these charming retro classics inside your browser. One of my favorites that I recommend is The Terminator game by Tiger.

GDC 2011: A look at the PSP 2

I had a chance to check out the PSP 2, codenamed the NGP on Friday on the Sony show floor at GDC.  Unfortunately the system was not available to play, with only a prototype inside a glass box for attendees to gawk at.  The system looked slick, lightweight and streamlined.  The new features were well integrated, including the dual analog nubs and the very low key sensors on the back.  The funny thing about the system was that there was no mention of 'PSP,' just a simple 'Playstation' written on the front.

I can only hope that this system doesn't turn into a trainwreck like the PSP did...Hopefully Sony has learned from their glaring mistakes in the last generation, including alienating third party developers.  Its the games, not the hardware that make or break the system.  Lets hope they'll have a playable version ready by E3!

Nintendo 3ds Now Available For Preorder!

Amazon just posted a pre-order page for the brand new 3ds, with the US retail price and a March 27, 2011 release date!  Exciting news, its coming out way sooner that I thought it would.

A few games are available for preorder it seems, including Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3ds , Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Contra 3ds.

The final price will be $250 with games costing about $35 a pop.  The final price ended up being about $50 cheaper than the Japanese retail price of $300, or 25,000 Yen.
