The Cubli - A cube that can jump up, balance, walk and beyond

Some very interesting work coming out of the Institute for Dynamic Systems and Control in Zurich, featuring a device called the 'Cubli,' which uses a series of reaction wheels on various sides to actually give these devices the ability to move, balance, jump and control their fall direction. It seemed like a cool gadget until the video mentions towards the end that the research is being used for potential planetary exploration devices, as well as 'studying self assembling robots,' which is a little freaky/singulatiry thought invoking to say the least.
