Sodagreen Story

I don't think we've ever posted a Taiwanese music video, but this was simply too beautiful to pass up. Created by the talented folks at Taipei's Grass Jelly studio, Sodagreen Story is a beautifully executed, soulful musical adventure. Executed with CG to emulate a world powered by clockwork automata, it's one of the visually richest, original music videos I think we've posted this year despite the language barrier. A synopsis of the videos concept below, and thanks to reader Crystal L. for help with translations!

The theme of this song's lyrics regard the singer's initially bittersweet emotions witnessing the autumn scenery before his eyes. The feeling gradually becomes cheerful and elastic because he slowly understands that what he yearns for is a peaceful and tranquil life. After all, life is like a dream. The protagonist eventually realizes that he should follow his fate and live a free and unfettered life, rather than letting his worries get to him.

The theme centers around a lot of Oriental philosophical thinking. The first major topic of the thinking is originated from Tao Yuanming’s Peach Blossom Spring, an ancient Chinese prose written over 1,500 years ago. It depicts a land hidden from the outside world called Peach Blossom Spring, a land which all Chinese people yearn for. There is no pollution in the land and it’s just like a utopia, a beautiful place which one can only imagine or dream about.
