The Making Of A Popeye Cartoon (Circa 1938)

Taken from the Fleischer Studio archives, this short featurette goes in depth into the type of work that animators went through back in the day to create Popeye's 'Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp.' It's so old school that it kind of hurts, featuring sweatshop-like environments critically dependent on impeccable consistency, individually photographed frames, hand mixed paint for the cells and many other techniques which in retrospect seem like a huge headache. At the end of the day though you can't help but appreciate what these pioneers accomplished, paving the way for our modern, digitalized processes.
