Katsuhiro Otomo Presents : Combustible

Katsuhiro Otomo's Combustible is based off of a 1994 manga he published (Hi No Yojin), telling the story of the Edo firefighters that served under the Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1868). Heavily influenced by Japanese woodcut illustration, the short appears to use a mixture of CG and hand animation to achieve a truly striking look.

Combustible has been shortlisted for the 85th Oscars for the Best Animated Short Films category, and will hopefully make the cut when the number is whittled down from 10 to 3-5 nominees. Stay tuned for the final results on the 10th.
