On a lazy Sunday afternoon following a hectic weekend, finding Hajime Asahi's illustrations was the perfect remedy to a little too much overstimulation. While looking through her work I was kind of struck by the fact that her work was actually relaxing to look at, easy on the eyes and full of warmth. Her characters typically have a relaxed demeanor about them and her choice of warm color palettes just convey the chill atmosphere she's going for. Her work does retain an anime style, but with a retro and nearly pop art-ish aesthetic that I found pleasant to check out. In terms of subject matter, I think there's a definite overarching theme of comfort, like cats or certain types of food.
Hajime works as an illustrator in Tokyo full time, doing editorial work and consulting on projects. Check out her work after the break, and enjoy the chill imagery.
