Avengers Vs X-Men: The Arc Released In Time For The Avenger Film

The final battle! Again! (Via)
Looks like Marvel's really trying to be blunt. In a a twelve-issue series/arc that's literally called Avengers Vs X-men we see the return of the Phoenix entity, who is rocketing toward Earth looking for a new host (which USA Today teases might be Hope Summers, the young girl considered both the messiah and the harbinger of doom for the mutant race AND daughter of Cable). The lines are drawn as the X-Men want to prepare Hope for her new role as Phoenix, while the Avengers want to spare her from that fate. A giant fight will follow.

The writers will be writing in rotation. Brian Bendis, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Ed Brubaker, and Jonathan Hickman have been confirmed. The same goes for the artists with John Romita Jr., Oliver Coipel and Adam Kubert in the bank. It's an interesting idea but it sounds like it could become a bit of a mess, like Fear Itself and most other crossover arcs Marvel have put out over the few years. I'm interested but lets put excitement on the back-buner for this one.

The series will launch sometime in April 2012, and I'm guessing a movie adaptation/Capcom fighting game might follow soon after.
