RIP Black Rock Studios

(Via)
Split/Second developer Black Rock Studios is soon to be no more, with owners Disney letting go of the team's 40 remaining staff. Eurogamer just broke the news a few hours ago.

I spent a brief time at the studio working in the video editing department. I know people at the studio, and it feels weird that one of the biggest studios under the Disney Entertainment banner is being shut down. Another videogame company bites the dust.

An anonymous source blamed Disney's handling of the studio for the closure, claiming the Brighton-based developer was overlooked by the publisher by outsourcing projects that it could have taken on. Former members of the team have already have already started up their own studios; Roundcube Entertainment was started up by former studio director Nick Baynes, while four other department directors have formed ShortRound Games.

Games worked on by the studio includes Pure & Split/Second.

UPDATE:
Disney has confirmed the Black Rock Studios closure.
