Karakuri

Karakuri

If there's one thing I've always been able to appreciate about Japanese culture, its their commitment to maintaining tradition and legacy. I had never heard about the art of Karakuri, but in a way it explains as to how Japan got so far ahead in the robotics race. Hideki Higashino, the craftsman in this video explains as to how long this art of creating automata has been around for 300 years, and how he's keeping the legacy alive. The archer and calligraphy painting robots in the video used zero electricity to carry out their functions, which absolutely blew my mind. A well shot, and narrated look into this forgotten art.
