Infamous 2: The Cole That Wasn't Quite There

Cole, prior to the 'Metrosexualing.' Awesome, badass Cole by Wes Burt.
The guys from the awesome concept art house known as Massive Black released a ton of preproduction art, showcasing the evolution of a Cole that would end up ultimately causing a massive backlash by fans. Why? Due to the design being way too radically different from what they had grown accustomed to. In a way, its totally true, the final design that Suckerpunch chose didn't even facially resemble the original Cole, resulting in a furor that caused a revert to the original design for the recently released sequel.

However, the guys at Massive Black..in my opinion created some fantastic designs that would have been perfect for an evolution. Check out some of the process after the break!

Cole looks a little bit like Erich from HBO's True Blood in thumbnail D.
Getting there.
Cole with shorts was a pretty cool design imo.
HELL YES! Badass Cole would have been amazing. However, Suckerpunch just decided to go with...

This. A kind of stoned looking Cole with a douche goatee, douche hair and douche pants. And they greenlit this, modeled it and stuck it in game. They even announced the new design in an issue of Game Informer detailing all the changes, to which all the fans replied with the logical, "Who the f*** is this supposed to be?"

Just compare this Cole, the Infamous 1 version to what you see above to understand why the fans reacted the way they did. It was the equivalent of Suckerpunch applying an Abercrombie & Fitch filter on top of the original design. So after much rage, Suckerpunch decided to fix all that went wrong by doing their own redesign to fix all the issues. We ended up with:

DERP.
Oh fu** this, I give up.
