Or... Maybe not. Turns out the next game you'll see on the 360 branded by the illustrious Square Enix will be this spastic third person shooter that's looking a lot like 2008's The Club meets... Well, I don't really know what it meets.
To be honest, part of me wants to purchase this game on day one just for the hell of it. Then there's the other part of me, which would completely agree if this game wasn't weighing in at a full sixty dollars on GameStop dot com right now.
This does look like a fun game in it's own ridiculous and ironic sort of way, but looking like it's looking and advertising like it's advertising, why does Square Enix think they can get away with charging sixty dollars for this on day one?
If this game were twenty or even thirty bucks budget, I'd be sold right away. Heck, I'd even go up to forty to purchase this day one. But with Dead Space 2, BulletStorm, and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 all coming out within the same thirty day window of this game, does Square Enix really think anyone can afford to pay full price for this game?
And even if they can, are they going to? As much as I hate to say it, there's a limited supply of people like me who are immediately amused by these campy/obscure Japanese titles that randomly get thrown on the western market.
Not to discredit Yakuza 3, but I think it's a pretty good example of how distinctly Japanese games are inappropriately marketed towards Western audiences. Even Vanquish, which was an over the top attempt at Western sensibilities, didn't do the business it deserved in the Western market.
So why don't these publishers and/or developers just slash prices for the Western market from the get go? Yakuza 3 and Vanquish were both two of my favorite titles from last year, but next to nobody played them because of their sixty dollar entry points. If those games had hit the market at half that price they probably would've done triple the business, and we'd probably get a lot more of these awesome and unique Japanese titles in the Western world.
Either way, I'm sure Gun Loco will ONE DAY be available for the ideal price of twenty dollars and then I'll be able to justify buying it, I just wish I could say I got a fun and whacky game at a bargain price on day one.
Just something the industry should consider.
